распакуйте архив с buildroot в другой какталог и соберите заново - зачем тут гадать, тем более никто кроме вас не знает что вы меняете

Как мог отразитьcя на билдруте то факт, что я на
плате внес изменения в файл /etc/inittab ?
P.S. ядро перезаливал, не помогло.

никак, достаточно вернуть как было - скопировать на плату из buildroot
output/target/etc/inittab

я не уверен, что причиной стало изменение файла, возможно совпало по времени, поэтому перезалил ядро. Скопировать что либо на плату не могу, потому что с платой нет связи(не работает консоль). По окончании загрузки нет приглашения ОС, консоль работает в режиме эха. Связь с платой по эзернет есть только из Uboot, то есть перезалить ядро могу. Догадываюсь что используя Uboot, вероятно можно заменить измененный файл, оригинальным, но мне пока с этим не справиться. Кроме того исходя из лога загрузки("UBIFS recovery needed" ), можно предположить, что причина все же иная.
